~ King owns up to his bisexuality and his
willingness to form more than a sexual relationship with another
man. Men on the DL are confused about their sexual orientation and
are reflecting the strong homophobic feelings in the black community,
King maintains. But because of the health risks posed by the spread
of AIDS by men on the DL, he advocates a focus on risky sexual practices
rather than sexual orientation. King draws distinctions between
white gay activists and black gay or bisexual men who feel the need
to remain centered in the black community. He also takes issue with
broader social pressures that define men in narrow roles as husbands
and fathers, creating pressure to present a facade of being straight.
By broadening his focus, King encourages analysis of the DL phenomenon
beyond his own personal -demons.

CP
Time: Why Some People Are Always Late
by
J. L. King (Author)
(Paperback - Mar 13, 2009) Other Editions:
Kindle Edition,
Hardcover ~ Everyone has a story
of being the victim of CP time. It's been responsible for the termination
of jobs and relationships, and for delaying weddings and even funerals.
CP Time is the first book to examine a behavior that crosses all
social economic lines within the black community in a way that will
bring smiles and groans of recognition to victims and culprits alike.
In brisk, engaging chapters, J.L. King provides humorous examples
and personal stories, voicing the opinions of those who view habitual
lateness as just part of being black, and those who see it as a
more serious problem. Recounting the reasons and excuses offered
in CP time's defense, King provides a wry and often hilarious history
of how and why the phenomenon began. Light-hearted yet enlightening,
CP Time makes a perfect gift for the chronically tardy -- and all
those affected by them.
